Home Office
My edit of sustainable home office furniture in the UK: desks and office chairs that are comfortable to work at and good to look at once the working day is done. I look for solid construction and materials that will last, because a well-made desk should see you through years of use. Check each retailer’s own details on materials and dimensions before you buy.

The chair matters most
If you work from home most days, prioritise an adjustable chair: seat height, lower back support and armrests that tuck under the desk. Your feet should rest flat with your knees at roughly a right angle.

Desk height and depth
A desk around 72 to 76cm high suits most people. Allow at least 60cm of depth if you use a monitor, so the screen can sit about an arm's length away.

Materials and cables
Solid wood and good quality plywood last far longer than chipboard. Built-in cable management keeps a small workspace calm, especially in a room that doubles as a living space.
