Buying Sustainably Shouldn't Feel Overwhelming

Choosing the right products for your home can feel confusing and time consuming! You want to make better choices to ensure product longevity and support responsible brands but don't want to compromise on style, quality or peace of mind.

That's why we built Earthly Treasures. We make it easy for you to find your favourite sustainable homewares brands. We do the research. You make the choice.

At Earthly Treasures think about sustainability through 11 key pillars.

We vet the brands we work with against these values, using the pillars as a sustainability framework to understand each seller’s practices.

  • Made in the UK

This brand makes its products in the UK, either through local production or bespoke made-to-order processes. Brands in this pillar often also source the majority (or all) of the raw materials used in their products from the UK.

  • Natural Materials

Brands that work with materials derived from nature — such as wood, clay, stone, wool, linen or plant-based fibres — often prioritise renewability, longevity and low-impact sourcing.

  • Environmental Conservation

Some brands actively support the protection of ecosystems, biodiversity or natural resources through their sourcing choices, partnerships, or contributions to conservation initiatives.

  • Recycled Materials

Many makers focus their impact on reducing waste by using certified recycled, reclaimed or repurposed materials instead of virgin resources — often as their primary sustainability approach.

  • Marginalised Communities

This pillar reflects brands that create fair access to work and opportunity, whether through inclusive employment practices, ethical supply chains, or partnerships that support underrepresented or disadvantaged communities.

  • Traditional Craft Preservation

This brand supports the preservation of heritage crafts and enable artisans to create sustainable livelihoods through their traditional skills.

  • Gender Advocacy

This brand/maker actively advocates for women and non-binary peoplethrough leadership, employment, training, or initiatives that promote equitable opportunities within their business or supply chain.

  • Circular Economy

Brands aligned with this pillar consider product life beyond the point of sale — through durability, repairability, modular design, take-back schemes, or made-to-order production that minimises waste.

  • Community Activity

Some businesses play an active role in their local or wider communities, whether through collaborations, volunteering, workshops, education, or reinvestment into the places they operate.

  • Carbon Reduction

This brand/maker is committed to reducing its carbon footprint through initiatives such as: adopting renewable energy sources to operate its business or production, reduced packaging, improving energy efficiency or green shipping and logistics.

  • Corporate Reporting

These brands are transparent in business practices and clear about materials, sourcing, production, pricing, and where they are still learning or improving. This can be done either formally in annual Corporate reports or less formally in smaller initiatives for micro brands.
