Founder of Earthly Treasures
Hi I’m Grace- the Founder of Earthly Treasures.
My love for the planet, nature and sustainability started when I was a kid, totally mesmerised by David Attenborough documentaries. I remember sitting there learning about the beauty of our planet, feeling both in awe but simultaneously in shock about how much damage us humans were doing to it. That curiosity stuck with me and led me to study sustainability modules throughout my Fashion Business university degree, with a focus on environmental sustainability lifecycle metrics and how the fashion industry (one of the most polluting) could change for the better.
Fast forward a bit where I worked in the fashion industry, and worked for some fantastic brands incorporating sustainability into their product sourcing and some not so fantastic brands. Some brands really prioritised sourcing more sustainable materials for their collections, evaluating every step of the supply chain and corporate practices to cut down on waste and to do better. Some had some really ambitious targets and business goals in place and the working culture promoted this sustainable mindset which was fantastic, however some brands prioritised profit over planet and people. I saw first hand the immense waste created by mass production and unethical working conditions. Unsold stock often destroyed to protect brand image from going into mass sales and devaluing the brand. This was a harsh reality that didn’t sit right with me. I didn’t feel good contributing to an industry that didn’t align with my values, so I decided to pivot.
I found my passion in the world of interiors, where I instantly connected with the slower, more thoughtful world of luxury interior design, creating bespoke projects for clients. As an interior design and sourcing specialist, I worked with heritage makers, seamstresses and craftsmen and understood all about quality furniture, durable construction and what to look for in pieces made to last. I learnt about fabrics that were designed to last and studied collections and projects from British heritage makers, such as William Morris; creating projects featuring classic timeless designs originating from 100 years ago. I prioritised designing with sustainable materials- often favouring fabrics made of post consumer recycled plastics, organic cottons and linen, and many of my clients requested this for their projects and were thrilled with the outcome. I loved the idea that something beautiful for your home also had meaning and purpose behind it. Pieces that were not only aesthetically pleasing, but also met the client’s functional needs and could become heirloom pieces. I experienced first hand how many of my clients wanted their home renovation projects to be more sustainable but were unsure where to go to find such pieces or what to trust.
That’s when Earthly Treasures was born. From listening to clients’ needs and my own frustrations in finding sustainable furnishings and homewares, I wanted to create a place where discovering sustainable homewares felt easy. I wanted it to be trustworthy without greenwashing or overwhelm and to help educate customers so they felt empowered with their choices.
Every piece we curate is carefully selected from ethical and sustainable brands- many of which are BCorp certified, artisan led and driven by values that put people and planet first. We review products and breakdown sustainability simply so it is easy to understand, helping consumers to make educated informed choices.
It’s my mission to make sustainable shopping simple. Just pieces you’ll genuinely love that are built to last and will treasure for a lifetime, knowing that you are supporting people and planet.
So I ask that, if you must buy, please buy better and more consciously.
Thanks so much for being here,
Grace x
